Who Is Coach Joshie?

Looking at me today, you probably wouldn’t think I used to weigh over 100kgs and worked behind a desk at a tech company.

If you’ve followed me on Instagram or Facebook, you might have a hard time believing I used to be a school bully that got in several fights every week.

And nobody would guess I used to be a former gang member that got expelled from school at only 15 years old.

What’s important to remember is that our identity is often only who we BELIEVE ourselves to be. Not actually the great person we really are under the surface.

In the final step of the Shred System, we will focus on creating a new identity that you are PROUD of.

The Melanin Shred Triangle

#1: Workouts and Exercise

When you sign up for The Melanin Shred today, you will be invited to download the private Coach Joshie App to your phone.

This app will be where you go to find your custom built workouts for your specific goals.

Depending on your body goals and schedule, you will workout 3-5x/week and accomplish a daily activity goal that will change as you progress through the program.

These workouts come in 6 week bundles with video demonstrations for how to perform each workout.

#2: Nutrition

Your custom nutrition plan will also be delivered through the private Coach Joshie App.

When you join the Melanin Shred you will schedule a 1-1 call with me or one of my coaches to lay out an exact meal plan for your body.

If you are vegetarian, you will get a vegetarian nutrition plan.

If you are vegan, you will get a vegan nutrition plan.

If you are a wine lover, you will get a nutrition plan with plenty of wine to keep you enjoying the process you are never craving the foods you love.

After we do that, we will design something called a “Semi-Script” Meal Plan for you through the Coach Joshie App.

This means that you will have a scheduled out set of meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that will match your diet.

What makes it a “semi-script” meal plan is that you have the ability to swap out your foods for each meal with other foods you might prefer.

For example…

Let’s say your lunch calls for a chicken stir-fry, but you’re tired of eating chicken stir fry!

No problem.

Instead of forcing you to eat chicken, we thought it was a good idea for you to be able to swap your foods out for meals you actually like to eat.

So instead of a chicken stir-fry, The Coach Joshie App will allow you to change your meal into a fish gumbo, a steak, or tofu dinner that still meets your nutritional requirements AND gives you food that you actually want to eat.

#3: Accountability

The #1 thing that allowed me to go from over 100kgs and fat down to 88kgs of muscle was accountability from my friend Yomi.

Yomi was a friend of mine that was in GREAT shape back when I was really overweight.

When he started taking me to the gym 3x/week, my whole life changed.
I couldn’t miss going to the gym because I knew Yomi would be waiting for me and I couldn’t let him down.

Fast forward to today and I’m in the best shape of my life thanks to that little bit of accountability I got from Yomi.

This is why inside the accountability portion of the Melanin Shred, I use accountability to keep you on track with your fitness plan.

The way I do this is in a number of ways.

First, you have our private Members Group that all members of our programs come together.

In this Members Group you will get to interact with dozens of other members just like you that are all working to transform their bodies.

When you see your peers getting results, you will be ethically “peer pressured” into getting good results as well.

Second, we have a weekly group coaching call that every member of the Melanin Shred is invited to.

These coaching calls will go over everything from my new favorite exercises for you to include in your workouts, mindset work, live vlog style interactive Q&A calls, and more.

To stay in shape, you must always be learning. And it’s much easier to learn with a group of people around you that support you.

Third and finally, you get 1-1 access to me and my coaches through The Coach Joshie App for any questions you may have in terms of fitness.

  • How soon will I start losing weight?

    You will see progress within the first few weeks.

    This is a stabilisation phase (finding a baseline for your body) so results vary widely from person to person. After 2 weeks most clients see their results accelerate as we learn your body.
  • What will I learn during the program?

    My focus for you in this program is for you to learn how to permanently lose fat and keep it off for the rest of your life.

    But even more importantly, you will learn the fitness and health skills to enjoy the new lifestyle you have created for yourself!

    I’m a big fan of fun, and that’s something we will prioritize throughout this program.
  • How do you help me personally?

    In addition to the one to one personal check-ins every week where we review your progress, we will have two live workouts a week and a video group coaching call once a week.

    The group coaching calls will be about personalized nutritional advice and tips for you to achieve more results. These are group calls, but Joshie (yes, I occasionally refer to myself in the third person lol) will personally answer the questions you ask for you in the Q&A section of each call.
  • Can I still eat out?

    Yes of course!

    Eating out can be factored into your plan, when you sign up you are also given over 30 guides to eating out in specific big-name restaurants :)

  • Can I do this program if I have a weird work schedule?

    Yes.

    We will schedule your workouts to fit into YOUR lifestyle.

    Whether you have day shifts, night shifts, or a combination of both - you can still do this program.
  • Can I still enjoy holidays?

    If you ever hear someone tell you “You can’t enjoy the holidays”, RUN.

    If you follow me on my social media, you know that I LOVE holidays

    Even when it’s not a holiday, I’ll go out to the pubs and celebrate being alive with my boys.

    Celebration and fun does not mean you can’t be in shape. I encourage ALL of my clients to enjoy themselves in each of their specific fitness plans.
  • I can't bring Tupperware Containers to work, can this be solved?

    Yes.

    The coaching in The Melanin Shred is based on principles, not rules. This means you are not obliged to eat one certain food out of a red tupperware container at exactly 11:57 every day haha.

    Our program makes it possible to eat 'normal' food and still get results even if you can’t bring your own food to work.
  • I don't like some foods, will this be taken into account?

    Yes.

    The Melanin Shred will allow you to eat the foods you want and still get results.

    This does not mean you will only eat brussel sprouts…

    And it also doesn’t mean you get to eat an entire box of biscuits for breakfast each morning…

    Like everything in life, great results are found in mastering moderation.
  • I don't know all exercises by name, how do I solve that?

    Inside the exclusive Coach Joshie Coaching App (downloadable to Apple or Android phones) you will have video demonstrations of each workout in your plan.

    It’s basically like taking me with you to every workout you do.

    These videos will give you instructions on form, reps, sets, and anything else you need to know to eliminate confusion and get a great workout in!
  • Do I get a step by step blueprint for getting into shape?

    Yes.

    You will get a clear plan inside The Melanin Shred that we will custom build for your specific fitness journey to get you to your goals.
  • Do you believe in rapid fat loss or slow and steady?

    Both.

    That being said, slow and steady fat loss almost always wins the race.

    To ensure you keep excess fat off, we have to approach your body like scientists.

    We will test different methods one at a time so we slowly build your dream body without you having to worry about regaining body fat as soon as you complete the program.
  • I am just coming back after an injury. Can you still help me?

    Yes.

    I tailor all programs to accommodate all abilities. We'd have to have a call first to see how I can help you with your specific injury.
  • Do I need to train at a gym or can I train from home?

    I will always prefer my clients working from the gym.

    It’s where me and my clients get the best results. But of course, the world wide pandemic has forced many people to workout from home.

    This is why I’ve built in “at-home” workout options for The Melanin Shred just in case you have to do your workouts at home.
  • How often do I need to workout? I don’t want to live in the gym, ya know?

    I totally get it.

    As much as I like the gym, there are other things to do in life!

    So don’t worry, you will not have to spend all day in the gym. All I require is 3x workouts per week for 30 - 45 minutes per session.
  • Do you oversee my actual workout program and nutrition plans?

    Yes!

    I am very busy haha.

    I will personally write and design all the phases you will enter in. Eventually this may change as I hire more superstar coaches like myself. But you will always have access to me and any other coaches I trust in The Melanin Shred.
  • Do I have to love to sweat and lift really heavyweights?

    No.

    You do not have to be a gorilla to join The Melanin Shred lol.

    My programs have been designed for different phases of the transformation. You may need to lose weight before you do fast HIIT training or Cardio and that’s perfectly ok. I will work with you to build out your personalized (and fun) fitness system.
  • How long does your program last?

    You need to understand that identify transformation usually takes at least a year to achieve.

    This is why I have a 1 year long program to help people make total transformations in every area of their life.

    To start, you do not have to commit to a 1 year program. We will find the best option for you to suit your needs.
  • How long do I have to commit to this program?

    The minimum commitment is 90 Days
  • Do you include a check in's to make sure I'm staying on track?

    Yes, part of your accountability is weekly direct check-ins with me.

    You will tell me your wins, losses, how you can improve and concerns or questions.

    This is how I can dive deep into your transformation and give you solid advice week to week.

    I find that most of us are so busy taking care of everyone around us that sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves.

    Someone needs to be responsible for us in helping us achieve our goals. That someone is me when you sign up for The Melanin Shred.
  • I have never hired a fitness coach and it's intimidating for me. Shouldn’t I make some progress on my own first?

    If you want results, then no. Geez no.

    Do you get better before you see a doctor or fix your pipes before visiting the plumber?

    Probably not, right?

  • What if there is an exercise I can't do or doesn't feel good?

    I will help you modify whatever you cannot do.

    Many of my clients have limitations. Knees, backs, surgeries, injuries - these things prevent us from doing certain movements.

  • Do I have the time to meal prep and exercise?

    I can promise you that how I will teach you to meal prep in this program will save you time AND money.

    This program is about keeping you healthy for an extra 20 years of your life. Not about giving you little chores and tasks to do through the day that suck up your time.

    As we build your program out you’ll find that you’ll have MORE time and money to do with what you want.
